December 7, 2007 Why should you bother to attend Dr. Jones hearing, at this busy time of year?
=== Has Dr. Jones successfully treated a child you know?
=== Has Dr. Jones helped YOU in your practice, either formally (preceptorship)
or informally?
=== How much do you care about the ethics that are being violated by this
egregious attack on Dr. Jones?
=== How much do you care about protecting the principle (as patients or
medical practitioners) of TWO
STANDARDS OF CARE?
=== To what extent do you believe you are responsible to support a
courageous Lyme doctor, even if
he has not treated you or your
child?
=== If you or a loved one has NOT had Lyme, where will you go if you or they
DO contract it, and don't
catch it early?
This is the hearing in which the panel presents it's recommendations to the
Medical Licensing Board. It is CRUCIAL that we have a large showing,
in support of Dr. Jones.
=== We ARE responsible for one another.
=== Sacrifice is called for, in support of a man who has sacrificed a great
deal for others.
=== To ignore Dr. Jones' needs at this time (both attending the hearing, and
contributing to his defense fund)
is to allow the targeting not only of
Dr. Jones but of other Lyme-literate physicians who have the
courage to fight this complex,
debilitating illness.
Attend the hearing, and bring your sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles - anyone
who has supported you or your children through illness.
I hope to see you there.

We all need to
realize that Dr. Jones' struggle is our struggle, regardless of where we live
or whether we have children with Lyme. At the last hearing, it was very
clear to everyone listening to Shapiro's testimony that he has an agenda far
beyond any individual doctor, and the agenda involves the complete destruction
of the credibility of the ILADS guidelines, and the doctors who practice using
these guidelines. His assertion that those who have only neurological
symptoms don't have Lyme, regardless of whether they have a positive blood
test, his discrediting any possibility of cross-placental transmission, and on
and on.
Our right to
have Lyme-literate doctors is at risk here. Our right to have guidelines
that address chronic Lyme is at risk, as well. Our right to have
laboratories that will aid the diagnosis with reasonable and accurate testing
is also under attack.
This past week,
I was discussing these issues with family members who were visiting from South
America. Although it's several months til my birthday, they were looking
for the perfect present to give me. Discussing it with my children, they
decided to give me a donation for Dr. Jones' legal defense fund, and declared
that they saw this as the best present they could give. It brought tears
to my eyes, not only in gratitude for the donation, but in appreciation for
the fact that these wonderful family members truly did understand what we are
facing in our struggles to protect our doctors, and our rights to treatment.
Please consider
asking for donations, in lieu of birthday presents, early Christmas and
Chanukah presents. It not only provides Dr. Jones with a much-needed
boost to his legal defense fund, but shows your family and friends how urgent
the issues are that we are all addressing in our collective endeavors.
